Department II of Internal Medicine

Divisions of Nephrology, Rheumatology, Diabetes and General Internal Medicine

Our mission is to improve the health of patients with kidney disease, hypertension and systemic immunologic and metabolic diseases. Our faculty members are world-renowned and involved in developing innovative treatment strategies, new experimental protocols and clinical trials as well as innovative transplantation strategies. For example, our team has been among the first to provide ABO blood group incompatible renal transplantation in Germany. Moreover, research at our institution resulted in the development of innovative treatment opportunities for cystic kidney diseases (ADPKD), genetic disorders, glomerular diseases and preeclampsia, a complication of pregnancy. The department offers comprehensive clinical services combined with cutting edge research and innovative training programs. Due to the combination of a patient-centered holistic health care approach and an internationally renowned research our department has acquired a leading position in Europe.
